Shreya Mahanot
At the heart of Shreya Mahanot’s sculptural work lies a revolutionary, self-invented technique: The Paper Pipe Method. Rooted in tradition but executed with radical care, this method transforms ordinary newspaper into sculptural paper pipes, which are then woven into vintage car forms.
Each pipe holds memory. Each weave holds time.
Only specific grades of newspaper are chosen — with optimal grain, flexibility, and absorbency.
Each strip is rolled diagonally using a fine wire or stick to form seamless pipes. No pipe is identical.
The pipes are dried naturally — a slow, meditative process to gain strength and resilience.
Pipes are bent, cut, sanded, and formed into structural car parts. Every curve is intentional.
Components are not glued — they are interwoven with other pipes, creating jointless strength.
Once assembled, the relic is coated with an archival-grade, eco-safe sealant and hand-painted in vintage hues like ivory, maroon, charcoal, or gold.
